In the event that you have spent two years or less with the employer, you must inform the latter one month before the date of leaving the work, and in the event that you have spent more than two years with the employer, you must inform the latter two months before the date of leaving work.

Second: The employer change form must be submitted through the electronic notification system at the Ministry of Labor, and the following documents should be attached to the form:

• A copy of the contract with the previous employer, authenticated by the Ministry

• A letter in Arabic from the new employer confirming the employment of the worker and directed to the ministry

Third: Upon receiving a text message from the Ministry of Labor confirming the change of employer,

The new employer must be addressed to initiate contract procedures through the Ministry of Labor's multilingual work contract digital certification system.

After filling in the information, the new employer prints the employment contract signed by both parties, and then uploads the signed copy and all other documents to the digital platform.

After the ministry confirms to the new employer that the work contract has become notarized, the new employer must pay the contract attestation fees and print the notarized work contract, which is automatically transmitted to the Ministry of Interior programs for the purpose of issuing the ID card, and the employer must provide you with a copy of the contract, and you can also download a copy about it via the platform.

Finally: The new employer enters the Metrash website of the Ministry of Interior to submit an application for a new Qatari identity card, and the employer obtains approval for the new identity card from the Ministry of Interior.

You must obtain a new ID and a valid health card from the new employer.

Should the same procedures be followed to change the employer during the probationary period?

The work contract may stipulate that you will be put on probation for an agreed period with the employer, provided that it does not exceed six months from the date of starting work, and you may not be put on probation more than once with the same employer.

The employment contract can be terminated during the probationary period, provided that the following are observed:

• Notify the current employer at least one month before leaving work through the electronic system of the Ministry of Labor

• The new employer must compensate the current employer for part of the recruitment fees and the value of a one-way ticket in the proportion agreed upon between the current and new employer, however, this amount may not exceed two months' wages of the worker's basic wage.

What are the consequences of not completing the notice period stipulated with the current employer?

If you decide to stop working before the end of the notice period, you must compensate your current employer for each day of the notice period in which you stopped working.

This period is calculated as equal to the basic wage for the remainder of the notice period, on a pro rata basis. For example, if you want to stop working two weeks before the notice period ends and your basic wage is 1,500 QR per month, you must pay the employer 750 QR in order to legally terminate the contract.

Do you have to pay money or reimburse your new employer for any administrative costs incurred to change employer?

No, the procedures for changing the employer are free for the worker, and there is no need to pay any amount or compensation to the new employer in exchange for the issuance of a new identity or health card.

Can I change the employer if there is a non-competition clause in the work contract?

The employer cannot include a non-competition clause in the work contract unless the nature of the work gives the worker access to information about clients or work secrets.
