The Medical Commission Department at the Ministry of Public Health undertakes a number of vital tasks that contribute effectively to the implementation of the general strategy of the Ministry, such as examining all arrivals to the country and some categories of residents to ensure that they are free of infectious diseases, in an effort to create a society free of diseases and epidemics.

The "Hukoomi" account indicated that a person can call the number 44679111 to find out all the details, as according to a Hukoomi website, the medical commission's procedures are as follows:

Keeping Qatar free of diseases

Upon arrival in Qatar, all arrivals are required by law to undergo a medical examination, as the purpose of this examination is to protect the general health of the population and prevent the spread of any contagious diseases from new arrivals.

Medical requirements for workers

All expats wishing to work and reside in the State of Qatar, by law, must undergo a medical examination after arriving in the country to be able to obtain a residence permit.

Those coming from one of these countries to work in Qatar must undergo a medical examination in their country through the approved expatriate labor examination centers before coming to Qatar:

Bangladesh, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Sudan.

Upon arrival in Qatar, the Medical Commission Department is responsible for conducting medical examinations aimed at protecting the health of the population in the State of Qatar and preventing the spread of infectious diseases from new arrivals.

Newcomers must obtain a blood type certificate, which can be obtained from any medical clinic for a small fee, before undergoing the medical commission examination, which includes a blood test and a chest x-ray. This examination is done to detect several diseases, including: HIV, tuberculosis, hepatitis B and C.

Additional annual medical examinations

Workers in restaurants, barbershops, laundry shops, health clubs, and other public places are required to have annual health check-ups.

Medical requirements for expatriate families

The same law applies to families of workers. Every adult family member (over 18 years old) is required by law to undergo a medical examination.

After the medical examination

After completing the medical examination, adults must go through the fingerprint matching process at the Ministry of Interior. The fingerprint headquarters is located on Salwa Road after the Industrial Bridge. There are fingerprint centers in other areas such as:

Al Khor, Mesaimeer, Al Duhail, Al Shamal, and the Industrial Area (next to Nissan Roundabout)

Conducting the medical examination is the responsibility of the Medical Commission and is located on Al-Montazah Street from the E-Ring Road. There are also three other hospitals that are accredited to conduct the mandatory examination for free:

Al Ahly Hospital

Doha Clinic Hospital

Al Emadi Hospital

The Ministry of Public Health has plans to open new facilities dedicated solely to conducting these examinations. The first hospital dedicated to workers will be established in the industrial area and is expected to be fully operational during 2015.
